Expert Workshop: The Road towards more Rights for the Rural Hungry - UN-Declaration on the Rights of Peasant and other People Working in Rural Areas

Bread for the World, United Nations Association of Germany, FIAN and the German Institute for Human Rights would like to invite you to the upcoming conference on the topic of the United Nations Declaration on the rights of peasants, and other people working in rural areas.
On June 27, 2014, the United Nations Human Rights Council has extended the mandate of the Intergovernmental Working group to negotiate, finalize and submit a draft declaration on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas. Informal consultations with governments, civil society and representatives of the movements shall be part of this process to which the Expert Workshop intends to contribute. The elaboration of the declaration is not starting from zero. On the basis of a draft, which was highly informed by La Via Campesina and presented by the Advisory Committee a first round of controversial discussion took place in Geneva last year. The Expert Workshop in Berlin shall start the discussion in Germany on the importance of such a special human rights instrument for peasants and other people working in rural areas and identify key elements that need to be included.
